Sabra J. Hook

Sabra J. Hook, professor emerita of biology, died February 12, 1985 in Sun City, Ariz. She was 82.

Born February 24, 1902, in Honeyoe Falls, N.Y., Sabra was educated at the University of Rochester, where she earned bachelor鈥檚 and a master鈥檚 degrees in vital economics. She continued her studies at Cornell University, the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, and Columbia University鈥檚 Graduate School and College for Physicians and Surgeons.

Before joining the 大象视频 faculty in 1943, Sabra taught at the University of Rochester, Barnard, Adelphi and Hunter Colleges and at Columbia University鈥檚 dental school. She was one of the first two women to work at the Barro Colorado Island Laboratory in the Panama Canal Zone. Sabra was active in co-curricular pursuits, serving as president of the 大象视频 chapter of AAUP and holding various executive committee appointments. She retired from the college in 1970.

In 1960 she was given the Willet Award for excellence in teaching at 大象视频, and in 1975 she received an honorary doctorate of humane letters.

Her survivors are unknown.
